She was born and raised in Chile . Shortly after graduating from High School in 1974, during the Pinochet dictatorship, her parents sent her to the care of an uncle in northern California .
In 1976, she entered the University of California , Santa Barbara and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She continued her education at U.C. Berkeley where she earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry in 1986.
In 1983, she married Christopher Gudeman and in 1991 she became a United States citizen. They have two wonderful children, ages 23 and 25. Their daughter, Emma, owns her own restaurant in Santa Barbara and their son, Clayton, is getting an MBA from Arizona State University.
She has spent most of her professional career in the high tech industry, in large companies and startups, as an employee and as a contractor with her own business. |

She worked in Silicon Valley where she acquired experience on strategic product development, managing resources, supervising, meeting deadlines and technical marketing.
While her children were young, she taught chemistry at various community colleges.
After 17 years of living in Los Gatos , her husband and her moved back to Santa Barbara County and to Lompoc in 2006.Her husband is a vice president of a high tech company in Goleta and Cecilia teaches Chemistry at Allan Hancock College.
